Obituary for Joyce Stiltner Hudson

Joyce Stiltner Hudson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 26, in Henderson, Kentucky. She had been fighting a battle with lung cancer for nearly 5 years. Joyce was 74 years old.

Joyce was born in Bremerton, Washington, July 17, 1944, to Margaret and Glenn Stiltner. She graduated Valedictorian from Moses Lake High School in 1961, and then went on to attend Washington State University’s Honors College. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Portland State University, went on to become a CPA, and received a Master's Degree in Public Health from the University of Minnesota.

She married John Hudson December 19, 1970 in Moses Lake, Washington. They raised two girls, Tamara and Tanya, in Beaverton, Oregon. After the girls were off to college and eyond, John and Joyce moved to Springfield, Illinois in 1994 where Joyce was Director of Managed Care at SIU School of Medicine. Four years later Joyce and John settled in Henderson, Kentucky and she started the next phase of her career at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Joyce was acutely attuned to detail and was an extremely hard worker. For 11 years, until her retirement, she was Chief Executive Officer of Deaconess Health Plans in Evansville, Indiana.

She was a positive mentor to many and had a lasting impression on those around her. When not working, Joyce followed her passion of gardening and tending to her flowerbeds. She also loved to do very intricate work, painting Christmas houses, making ornaments, and knitting everything from socks to hats to shawls. She was extremely talented and her gifts to family and friends will be cherished for generations to come. She was a loving mother who wanted nothing more than for her family to be happy and successful. She will be dearly missed.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Hudson; her children Tamara Rodigari of Malawi, Africa and Tanya Hudson and Joyce’s grandsons, Aidan and Julian Gellatly of Portland, Oregon; her youngest sister, Shelly Parks of Edmonds, Washington; and her feisty cat, Sarah. Her middle sister, Marcee Stiltner of Tumwater, Washington, passed away January 29, 2017.

If you would like to make a donation in Joyce’s honor, please donate to St. Anthony’s Hospice Center (stanthonyshospice.org). Joyce spent her final days at the Lucy Smith King Care Center (part of St. Anthony’s Hospice) and spoke often of the loving, compassionate, and supportive care she received.

A private reception in celebration of Joyce's life will be held at The Pointe at Solarbron, 1501 McDowell Road, on Sunday, October 14, 2018. Guests can drop in between 2 pm and 4 pm. Please leave parking on the street closest to The Pointe building for the handicapped. Additional parking will be available in the lot in front of The Terrace building, 1701 McDowell Road.
