Nancy Mattingly Phillips

April 9, 1956 — February 13, 2023

Nancy Mattingly Phillips, age 66, of Reed, KY, passed away on February 13, 2023, at her home, under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by parents, Carl and Carol Mattingly. She married the love of her life in 1974, Jonathan Phillips, who took vigilant and loving care of her during her illness.

After graduating from Henderson County High in 1974, Nancy was a proud homemaker and mother. She believed taking care of her family and caring for her children was the most important job in the world. As her children grew, her passion was watching the boys play baseball, she loved the games, kept score at each one, and brought snickerdoodles for everyone to many games.

She later worked at Primitive Plus and Bacon’s, where she met and worked with lifelong friends who were more like family. Once her family was grown, she enjoyed gardening, shopping, Church and her family. She was an avid collector of salt and pepper shakers. There were many hours and trees lost working on genealogy research of her family. Nancy was a member of Reed Community Church and a sinner saved by Grace.

Above all, Nancy loved to care for her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She cared for all of her grandchildren, and held Grancy’s Day Camp services during the summer, in which she and the kids would do activities and travel around Kentucky seeing and doing fun things. She loved to be at the family’s river camp on the Green River enjoying time with the family and entertaining visitors. The most important thing to be said about Nancy was that she would drop anything at any time to do anything for anyone.

Survivors include her husband, Jonathan Phillips of Reed, KY, 3 children, Carrie Phillips of Henderson, KY, Chad Phillips and his wife Lindsay Phillips of Cadiz, KY, and Beau Phillips and his wife Ashley Phillips of Henderson, KY. 2 sisters, Carolyn Sue Heppler of Morganfield, KY, and Bonita Hatfield of Marion, KY, and 7 grandchildren: Hannah and Ella Kornacki, Mason and Reid Phillips, and Lucas Sutton and Allison and June Phillips (each of which she told was her favorite when she was alone with them.) Nancy had several nieces, nephews and cousins that were more like brothers and sisters to her.

Relatives and friends are invited to visitation on Thursday, February 16 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Tomlinson Funeral Home in Henderson. Services will be at 1 p.m. with Father Fid officiating.
