Allen Kenney

Allen G Kenney, 82 of Henderson dies July 13, 2014 at Lucy Smith King Care Center. He was born June 21, 1932 in Levels, West Virginia. He graduated from Marshall University after playing football and baseball for the Thundering Herd. He served in Germany for the US Army for 2 years before moving to Henderson. He retired from Commonwealth Life Insurance after 38 years, then worked for the housing authority for 12 years and Methodist Hospital for 5 years. He was a charter member of Chapel Hill Methodist church where he taught Sunday School for 30 + years and served as chairman of the Administrative Board and the on various committees and also was awarded “Man of the Decade” in 1997. He was a member of the Jaycees and of the Lion’s Club where he served as president and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Kenney was also a city commissioner from 1972 – 1985. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Mark Kenney and one granddaughter Olivia Folsum. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet Combs Kenney 2 Daughters: Pam Raleigh and husband Steve Julie Folsom and her husband Johnny 6 Grandchildren: Sarah Stewart and husband Cory, Amy Meadows and husband Troy, Maria Daniel and husband Scott, John Raleigh, Emily Boston and husband Josh, Elijah Folsom 9 Great-grandchildren Relatives and friends are invited to attend Al’s celebration of life at Chapel Hill Church on Tuesday 2-8 PM and Wednesday morning 9:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM. Rev. Ted Burke will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legions Worsham Post 40 Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be John Raleigh, Cory Stewart, Troy Meadows, Scott Daniel, Josh Boston, Alex Raleigh and Elijah Folsom. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Henderson City Lions Club. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Chapel Hill Building Fund of St. Anthony’s Hospice.
