Alvie Franklin "Frank" O'Nan, Sr., a beloved father and grandfather, passed away on July 4, 2026, at the Columbia Healthcare Center in Evansville, IN under the care of Heart to Heart Hospice. He was 85 years old. He was born on May 30, 1941, in Geneva, KY to the late Pete and Dorothy (Gish) O'Nan.
Alvie lived his life rooted in the Christian faith, which guided him through the joys and sorrows of life. He had a voracious appetite for knowledge, finding solace in reading and a deep interest in history and politics. A spirited fan of sports, he could often be found cheering for his favorite teams: the University of Kentucky basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball. His love for bluegrass music added rhythm and warmth to his days, showcasing the rich cultural heritage he cherished. Frank was proud to hold the title of Kentucky Colonel, reflecting his belief in service and community. Frank had worked at Fuller Brush, Roselwan Memorial Gardens, Methodist Hospital and at Airline Baptist Church. Frank graduated from Slaughters High School in 1959 and had attended Henderson Community College.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four children: Alvie F. O'Nan, Jr., Kelly Darlene O'Nan, Trudy O'Nan McConnell, and John F. O'Nan, as well as his granddaughter, Claudia Alice Lemming; his siblings, Petey O'Nan, Martha O'Nan, RN, Finis O'Nan, and Danny O'Nan.
He is survived by his daughter, Julie O'Nan Lemming (Steven) of Henderson, and his sister, Alice Burton of Sebree, KY. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Derek McConnell (Sarah), Chris McConnell (Makayla), Dori Johnson (Justin), Morgan O'Nan (fiancé, Matt Huff), Nate O'Nan, and Jonathan Barker; six great grandchildren and one on the way; several cousins, nieces and nephews, who will remember him fondly and carry forward his legacy of love and humor.
Family and friends will gather to honor Frank's life on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
