Barney Whitfield Stevenson

March 10, 1952 — August 8, 2025

Cairo

Barney Whitfield Stevenson, 73, of Cairo, KY passed away in his home on
August 8, 2025.

He was born on March 10, 1952 to James “Whit” and Helen Stevenson, both
of whom have preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann Vanada Stevenson (married
August 9, 1975); his three sons: Michael (Amy), Kevin (Nicole) and
David; six grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, Dakota, Izzy, Hudson and Carly;
and siblings: Pat, Bobby (Emma), Darlene and Alex (Rhonda).

He dearly loved his grandchildren. Significant health issues did not
keep him from attending ballgames, concerts, birthday parties and
anything else that involved them. He enjoyed teasing, hugging and
spoiling them, but he also pushed them to always be upright and
hardworking.

Barney was generally quiet but had an excellent sense of humor. He was
selfless and very generous with his time, knowledge and resources. He
was goal oriented and driven, no matter what he was doing.

He was proud to be a tool maker, working at Eaton Axle/Dana Corp (from
18 years old to retirement). He farmed and enjoyed beekeeping. He
talked frequently of the cars he had owned in his youth including a
green 1966 Chevelle SS that he named “The Uncola”. He was a fan of
NASCAR and also an avid music lover with classic rock (60’s) being his
favorite genre.

He became a follower of Jesus later in his life and was baptized June
19, 2019. He attended Cairo Methodist Church regularly until his health
would no longer allow in 2022, after which he watched the services each
week online. After many miracles where he overcame these health
obstacles his faith deepened, his heart softened and he became much more
open about his beliefs.

We are so grateful for the doctors, nurses, and staff at Ascension
Hospital and St. Vincent Rehab center who helped give us all an
additional three years with this man that we will all now miss so much.
Barney said that “he was in the hospital so long that the nurses began
to feel like family”.
