Beverly Ann (“Betsy”) Fulkerson, 84, of Greenwood, Indiana was called home gracefully and peacefully by her Lord and Savior on April 29, 2021 with her husband and daughter by her side. She passed away from natural causes, not related to Covid 19. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 63 years, Larry D. Fulkerson; her daughter, Jennifer L. Fulkerson; and her brother, Owen B. (“Bud”) Melton, Jr., (Chris). Her son, Jeffrey L. Fulkerson, and her Aunt, Saverne E. Melton, predeceased her. Betsy was born in Terre Haute, Indiana to Owen B. Melton, Sr., and Jane B. Melton. The family moved to Evansville, Indiana, where Betsy was primarily raised. She graduated from Central High School in Evansville and then from Indiana University in Bloomington with both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, and where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. In addition, she was a Member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO). Betsy began her long and distinguished elementary school teaching career in San Antonio, Texas where her husband was stationed in the U.S. Army. After his Honorable discharge they moved to Martinsville, Indiana where she taught full time and commuted to Bloomington to work on her Master’s Degree. After completing her Master’s Degree, she and her husband then relocated back to Evansville where she taught in the Evansville Vanderburgh County School system at Harper Grade School for 10 years. Her husband was then transferred to Louisville, Kentucky. Betsy became a School Administrator in 1973 serving at Second Presbyterian Weekday school in Louisville, KY. After leading that pre-school as its Administrator for 17 years, her husband was then transferred to the Indianapolis area. Prior to leaving Louisville, Betsy was deeply honored when, in deep appreciation for her dedication to the students, faculty and congregation of Second Presbyterian Church, the Church dedicated and named its Library, The Beverly Fulkerson Library. After moving to Greenwood in 1989, she became the Principal for the Southport Presbyterian Christian School. She served that school for 13 years and ended her teaching career when she retired in 2003 as Director of its Preschool. Betsy was a member of Greenwood Presbyterian Church where she also served as a Deacon and Ruling Elder. Betsy is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Selena Fulkerson Soteriou (Georgious) and her grandchildren: Sierra Jane Fulkerson, Laurel Ann Elizabeth Miller (Marty), and Thomas Allen Douglas Paswater (Spencer). Her great grandchildren include Nicholas Isaiah Miller, Alaina Isabel Miller, Benjamin Isaac Fulkerson-Miller, Kelton Lee Miller, Emerson Lynn Paswater and Barry Alexus-Ann Paswater. Her nephew is Scott F. Melton and nieces Melissa M. Adams (Chris) and Kathryn E. Gallagher (Travis). Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Greenwood Presbyterian Church, Greenwood, Indiana. Due to the Covid 19 restrictions, there will not be a funeral service. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery in Sebree, Kentucky at the Melton family plot.
