Bobby Dick Higgins

Bobby Dick Higgins, Age 73, of Madisonville, KY passed away at 8:00 PM Thursday January 14, 2010 in the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville He was born January 13, 1937 in Slaughters, Ky to the late Edward Putman (Pete) and Sarah Springfield Higgins. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Madisonville. Bobby retired as a Major from the US Army, serving in the Army Reserves and National Guard from 1960-1983 and earning the National Defense Service Medal. He received his undergraduate and graduate education from Murray State University as well as his Specialist degree in Education. He served as Principal of Anton Elementary School, Assistant Principal of Madisonville Junior High and spent the majority of his career as Principal of Hanson School 1970-1990. He was dedicated to education and enjoyed this most in life. He touched many lives as a Principal, teacher, coach and mentor. Preceded in death by his parents, Edward Putman (Pete) and Sarah Springfield Higgins. Survived by his wife, Janice Higgins; son, Doug Higgins (Sherry) of Hanson, KY; daughter, Stacia Vetter (Kenny) of Nashville, TN; sister, Donna Henry Soringfield, TN ; grandchildren, Zach and Abigail Higgins; step-children, Rafe Pendley (Kathy) of Hanson, KY and Tracy Valleroy (Jon) of Bowling Green, KY ; step-grandchildren, Julian Valleroy, Connor and Cameron Pendley. Services will be held Sunday January 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Tomblinson Funeral Home Slaughters-Hanson Chapel in Slaughters, KY. Bro. Lairy Nofsinger and Bro. Scott Milby will officiate Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery in Madisonville. Visitation will be held Saturday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 PM and Sunday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be; Zachary Higgins, Rafe Pendley, Kenny Vetter, Jon Valleroy, Edward Fox and Larry Alexander. Honorary pallbearers will Kevin Clinard, Neil Murphy and Seth Massey.
