Carl Maurice Smithhart

Carl Maurice Smithhart, 82, of Corydon, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024, at home.

He was born in Reed on October 24, 1941, to the late Carl A. and Linda (Brewer) Smithhart.

Carl retired from Whirlpool after 40 years and was an avid UK Basketball fan. In his free time, he enjoyed crafting knives, hunting, and fishing. He also cherished traveling with his wife, exploring 44 states across the country together.  Carl proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Oma Fern Smithhart; sister, Ann Varble; and brothers, Melvin Smithhart, Larry “Peewee” Smithhart, and Jeff Smithhart.

Survivors include his children, Wesley Smithhart (Sheila) of Cairo and Rachel Smithhart of Henderson; several nieces and nephews; and fur babies, Sheldon, Abby, and Bailey.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 6 at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson with Don Haire Jr., Brian Haire, and J.W. Haire officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, September 6 from 10 a.m. until funeral time.
