David Bishop, son of Glenn Bishop from Henderson, KY and the late Ruby O’Dell Bishop of Pawhuska, OK, died May 6, 2023 in a rafting accident on the Rio Grande Racetrack course near Taos, NM.
David was born in Henderson, KY on November 13, 1972 and moved to Pawhuska, OK when he was seven years old. He would return on occasions to visit.
He earned a B.A./B.S. in broadcast journalism and mass communications from Oklahoma State University and a master’s in film studies and producing from American Film Institute. David also received a bachelor’s in archaeology and anthropology at Fort Lewis College and studied energy law at the University of Tulsa School of Law.
His latest accomplishment was a documentary that aired May 29, 2023 on the Smithsonian Channel covering the 1920s Osage Murders. Especially significant to David, as a member of the Osage Nation himself. Sadly, he didn’t live to see it premier.
He is survived by his father, Glenn Bishop; eight half-siblings; aunts, uncles, and many friends across the United States. It was often said among those who knew him that he never met a stranger. It left a huge hole in the hearts of many when he left us.
As per David’s wishes, graveside services will be private. However, memorial services will be scheduled at a later date in Los Angeles, Tulsa, and Pawhuska.
