David Southerland

David Southerland age 78 of Madisonville, KY passed away at 7:45 AM Thursday February 11, 2010 at his home. He was born December 21, 1931 in Wheatcroft, KY to Virgil Grant and May Cowan Southerland. He was a coal miner and last worked at Pleasant View Mines. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He was a member of the Earlington American Legion Post #2 and a lifetime member of the Madisonville VFW Post #5480. He was also a member of the Hopkins County DES and the Grapevine Fire Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Boyd Southerland, two sisters Thelma Eden and Bobbi Hernandez. He is survived by his wife; Martha Southerland of Madisonville, KY, two daughters Susan Fuller of Earlington, KY and Sharon Kelley of Madisonville, KY, three brothers; Carol Southerland of Mt. Clemens, MI, Kenneth Southerland of Earlington, KY and Ricky Southerland of Evansville, IN, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His funeral will be at 2:00 PM Sunday February 14, 2010 at Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington, KY with Rev. Marshall Lee officiating. Burial will be in Grapevine Cemetery in Madisonville. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Saturday February 13, 2010 and from 9:00 AM until the service time Sunday at the funeral home. Military honors will be performed at the Grapevine Cemetery by the Madisonville American Legion Post #6, Madisonville VFW Post #5480, Earlington American Legion the Post #2 and Dawson Springs American Legion Post #310.
