Donald W. Winstead, 76, passed away at 5:50 PM Thursday February 7, 2013 at his home in Madisonville from complications of Leukemia. Don was a veteran of 20 years Army service, attached to the American Embassys in Bangkok, Thailand, Quito, Equador, Tehran, Iran and Athens, Greece. He was a postal worker for 17 years at Madisonville, Ky. He served as a city commissioner in Slaughters for 10 years and later as Mayor for 17 years. Don was a Kentucky Colonel. He is a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Slaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents Conard and Edith (Atchley) Winstead, two brothers JR and Hugh Winstead. He is survived by his wife Jean Ray Winstead Son: David Winstead of Allen, Texas Daughter: Lisa Murray of Akron, Ohio 3 Grandchildren: Brandon Williams, Matthew Murray and Emma Winstead. Sister: Barbara Crowley of Pangburn, Arkansas Brother: Dale Winstead of Vandetta, KY Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday February 12, 2013 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Slaughters-Hanson Chapel. Bro. Steve Dame will officiate. Burial will be in Slaughters Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 4-7PM and Tuesday 9:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled Veterans of America. Pallbearers will be Matthew Murray, Tim Murray, Brandon Williams, Dale Winstead, Dorris Hobgood, Jeremy McKinsey. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Cooper, Bob Warrell, JR Winstead, Hugh Winstead, Rudy Brown, Oscar Hancock.
