Dorothy Jean DeGraffenreid, 85, of Evansville passed away Saturday May 12, 2018 at the Evansville Protestant Home. She was born in Poole, Kentucky on October 7, 1932 to the late William Alvey and Edna (Brown) Russell. Dorothy taught Sunday school for many years at Shady Grove Baptist Church and received an 8 year pin for perfect Sunday school attendance. She was the co-founder of Lorraine Park Neighborhood Association. Dorothy was the author of 2 books: The Travels and Adventures of Minnie Cule and Under the Locust Trees. She was considered the family historian and enjoyed telling stories to her grandkids. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Billy DeGraffenreid, her eldest son Robert Wayne DeGraffenreid and 1 brother Jimmie Russell. Survivors include 2 sons: David DeGraffenreid and his wife Sue, John DeGraffenreid and wife Robbie both of Newburgh, Indiana, daughter-in-law Diane (Lopp) DeGraffenreid of Newburgh, 1 brother Marvin Russell of Hanson, 2 sisters Anna Lorraine Cole and husband Donald of Providence, Linda Link of Dixon, 5 grandchildren Rob DeGraffenreid, Brad DeGraffenreid and wife Amy, Carrie West and husband Rick, Jennifer Garibaldi, Lauren DeGraffenreid, 9 great-grandchildren Josey, Shelby, Xavier, Hanna, Adam, Abby, Colton, Brooklyn, Mallory and many nieces and nephews. Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday May 16, 2018 at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson. The Reverends Donald Cole and Gene Cole will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday 4-8PM and Wednesday 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Alzheimer’s Association. Pallbearers will be Rob DeGraffenreid, Brad DeGraffenreid, Rick West, Carrie West, Jennifer Garibaldi and Lauren DeGraffenreid.
