Dorothy E. “Granny” Rhodes, 97 passed away peacefully at St. Anthony’s Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center in Henderson Thursday night September 8, 2016. She was born on April 4, 1919 to Fred and Mary Lou Nichols in Henderson County. She was raised a farm girl and became a farm wife when she married Paul E. Rhodes and they had 6 sons. She loved growing flowers, cooking, baking and working the farm in Alzey Bottoms. She had also worked at Tri-State and Cyneade Plastics until she retired at age 73 where she was affectionately known as “Granny” and had many wonderful friends. Preceding her in death are her parents; Fred and Mary Lou Nichols, 3 brothers; Robert “Buck” Nichols, E. S. “Tommy” Nichols and Fred “Peanie” Nichols, 2 sisters; Mildred “Bee” Pippin and Maggie Hooper, 3 sons; Joseph Lee, Timothy Bryant and William Nicholas Rhodes. Surviving her are 3 sons; Paul D. Rhodes and his wife Ellen of Warsaw, IN, Robert E. Rhodes of Henderson and Gregory W. Rhodes of Wichita, KS, beloved sister; Martha Moore of Henderson, 3 grandkids; Zak Parker of Stanford, KY, Brandie L. Rhodes of Henderson and Zachary J. Mitchell of the U.S.A.F., 3 great grandkids and many nieces and nephews. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed, but what a joyous reunion she’s having in God’s paradise. Graveside service will be 3:00 PM Saturday September 10, 2016 at St. Louis Cemetery in Henderson. There will be no visitation per her request. Dr. Hollis Marshall will officiate. Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson is handling arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Anthony’s Hospice.
