Douglas Henry Williams, 66, of Okeechobee, FL, passed away on February 20, 2009 , after a courageous battle with bone cancer. Born in Cleveland, OH, his family moved to San Diego, CA, where he was raised. Doug enlisted in the US Navy at age 17, and became a submarine sonar technician. After serving as a submariner for several years, the Navy sent him to the University of New Mexico where he obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering. He went through Officer Candidate School and became a naval aviator, flying the E2-C Hawkeye with over 1200 aircraft carrier landings. Doug served at the Pentagon in the Organization of the Joing Chiefs of Staff, then returned after 32 years of service to our country. Doug is survived by his wife of 20 years, Victoria Riggs Williams formerly of Owensboro, KY now residing in Okeechobee, FL; his daughter Wendi and her husband Mark Blaha of Lebanon, OH; two grandsons Nicholaus and Zachary Blaha of Lebanon, OH; his brother John Williams of San Diego, CA; his father-in-law and mother-in-law James and Betty Riggs of Owensboro, KY. Friends may visit with the family between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM Saturday, February 28 at the Tomblinson Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Springdale Cemetery in Sebree with full military honors.
