Duane Zachary, 75 of Slaughters, passed away at Baptist Health on Sat. November 22, 2014. Duane was a member of the Slaughters United Methodist Church, a 1957 graduate of Slaughters High School, a former owner/operator of the Gulf/BP Service Station in Slaughters, and an Army National Guard veteran who served active duty in 1961-’62 during the Berlin Crisis. He was an outdoor enthusiast who liked to hunt and fish, and he had a passion for UK basketball and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He bowled for many years in league competition and was a member of Madisonville Melody Lanes’ Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his parents: Hazel and Aubrey Zachary; three brothers: Ronald, Jerry, and Mark Zachary. He is survived by two daughters: Jackie (David) Nance and Janice Carter, both of Slaughters; one son: Dennis (Becky) Zachary of Jasper, IN; ten grandchildren: Samantha (Erik) Winebarger, Jacob (Sarah) Nance, Zachary Nance, James Nance, Duane Carter, Nathan Carter, Sean Carter, Monica Zachary, Michael Zachary, and Matthew Zachary; two great-grandchildren: Gabe Winebarger and Ava Winebarger; one sister: Peggy Coomes; and one brother: Bryan (Renee) Zachary; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held November 30, Sunday at Tomblinson Funeral Home Slaughters Hanson Chapel at 4:00PM with Pastor James Keegan officiating. His family will receive friends and relatives from 1:00 PM until service time. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials in his memory may be made to Slaughters Ministerial Association.
