Dwight "Monk" Clayton Norman, Jr.

Dwight “Monk” Clayton Norman, Jr, 77 of Henderson, formerly of Baskett, passed away at   9:26 PM, Monday, July 2, 2018 at his home surrounded by family.  Monk was a 1994 inductee of the Henderson County Sports Hall of Fame.  This honor was given to him for his four seasons as a starting pitcher for the Colonels.  He lost four games – three of them to Owensboro and two of those by 1-0 scores. In the other loss, 10-9 to Madisonville in 10 innings, he struck out 20 batters.  The Colonels won the district title each of his four seasons and he also was one of the team’s top hitters. He sparked the Colonels to a district basketball title and won all-district and all-region honors. He turned down pro baseball offers to sign with Murray State, where an arm injury ended his pitching career.  He then continued his love of baseball by playing fast-pitch softball on teams that won multiple tournaments and state championships.  He is preceded in death by his father, Dwight Norman, Sr., his mother Modeste Norman, and a son, Torre Norman. Monk is survived by his brother, Hayden (Pauline) Norman of Baskett.  Sons, Clay (Susan) Norman, Tim (Valerie)Norman, Craig (Shasta) Norman all of Henderson, Todd (Niki) Norman of Madisonville, Brian (Angie) Norman of Dallas, Texas, and his daughter, Brittany Norman of Morganfield.  21grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Bogey. Services will be 1:00 PM Friday July 6, 2018 at Advance Baptist Church with Bro. Ellis Payne officiating. Burial will be in Baskett Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 4-8 PM at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson and Friday 11:00 AM until service time at Advance Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Lucas, Bryan Lucas, Bruce Chandler, Jimmy Ligon, Neil Cantley and Gary Busby. The honorary pallbearers will be Pat Riggins and Monk’s former teammates.  Expressions of sympathy can be made to Baskett Recreation League or St. Anthony’s Hospice.
