Edith Earlene Liggett Roberts, 104, of Henderson, Kentucky passed in Virginia Beach, Virginia on May 3, 2024. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Earlene was born in Tilden, Kentucky on Nov. 22, 1919 to the late Lattie and Hardis Liggett. She was the last living of Ma Liggett’s nine children who were all raised on the farm in a happy, loving family. Known for her fun-loving spirit and kindness, Earlene loved to laugh and to be with her family. Many a joke, story, and cup of coffee were shared around her kitchen table. During WWII, she supported the war effort by making munitions.
She is predeceased by her husband, Elbert Owen Roberts, Jr., two children, Kenneth Short and Wanda Knepper, and five grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters, Rita Sampson and Elaine Roberts, two sons-in-law, Rick Sampson and Danny Knepper, as well as many grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to honor Earlene’s life will be held at 12:00 on May 11 at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson, with Pastor Rick O’Daniel officiating. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until the service. Afterwards, Earlene will be laid to rest next to her husband at Fernwood.
A Celebration of Life dinner will follow at the General Baptist Church on Zion Road.
Earlene “Silver Slippers” will be dearly missed by her fam
ily and friends. Her love and spirit will remain in the hearts of all those who knew her.
