Edward Russell Brown

July 17, 1932 — May 3, 2024

Edward Russell (Russ) Brown departed this world at the age of 91 for a new life on May 3, 2024. Born July 17, 1932, in Birmingham, Alabama to Paul Jones Brown, Sr. and Annie Virginia Humphrey.


Russ entered the military during the Korean conflict. During this twenty plus years he did assignments in a good part of the world, spending over ten years of it overseas. His duties ranged from being a cryptographer and member of the Presidentially awarded 1st MOB Black Hats in Vietnam. He served as an Air Force advisor to the National Guard and ended his military life as a member of the Inspector General’s Team Washington, DC.


He was the recipient of several military awards. The greatest was his assignment to Arizona where he met and wed Martha Jean (Marty) Skaggs. They shared 63 years together. This marriage produced a son, Vince, and a daughter, Julie Anne. The family were members of Immanuel Baptist Temple. As a member, Russ served on various committees, including his time as Deacon Chairman. In the year 2002, he was honored as a hometown hero.


Russ enjoyed a second career at Henderson Paint and Glass, from which he retired after 24 years.


Survivors are his son Vincent R. Brown of Evansville, Indiana, daughter Julia Anne Nantz and her spouse Damon of Henderson, Kentucky, and grandsons Russell Kohl Oettle of Henderson, Kentucky, and Isaac C. Oettle of Louisville, Kentucky.


Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Friday May 10, 2024 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens where Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Worsham Post #40.


Tomblinson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Expression of sympathy may take the form of contribution to St. Anthony Hospice Henderson.
