Gene Loyd Davis

Gene Lloyd Davis age 88 of Earlington, KY, passed away at 2:45 A.M. September 27, 2009 at Brighton Conerstone Health Care in Madisonville, KY. He was born October 17, 1920 in Mortons Gap, Ky to James Henry Raymond and Myrtle Mae Sisk Davis. He was a member of the Immaculate Concepton Catholic Church in Earlington, KY, and he was a salesman for Kerco in Madisonville, KY. He graduated from Madisonville High School in 1938 and then attended the University of Kentucky until he was drafted in 1942 into the Army Air Corps. He served in the Pacific Theater in the 45th Tactical Fighter Squadron until the end of World War II. He was last based on the island of Iwo Jima. He married Barbara Stokes on april 4, 1942. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter Theresa Davis Higgins and one grandson James Andrew Davis. He is survived by his wife Barbara Stokes Davis of Earlington, KY; one son John Allen Davis and his wife Velma of Madisoville, KY; one daughter Dr. Susan davis and her husband Tom Santos of Topsfield, MA; twelve grandchildren: John Allen Davis III, Amy Higgins, Matthew Davis, Joshua Davis, Hanna Davis, Sarai Davis Hicks, Abram Davis, Michael Davis, Peter Davis. Paul Davis, Barbara Santos, Jack Santos, and fourteen great grandchildren. His funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday October 2, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholis Church in Earlington, KY with Father Bruce Fogle officiating. Rosary will be said at 6:30 P.M. Thursday October 1, 2009. His burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Earlington, KY, with military rites at the cemetery conducted by Madisonville American Legion Post #6, Madisonville VFW Post #5480. Earlington American Legion Post #2 and the Dawson Springs American Legion Post #310. His visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday October 1, 2009 and from 9:00 A.M.-10:00 A.M. Friday October 2, 2009 at Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington, KY. Pallbearers will be Allen Davis, Matt Davis, Josh Davis, Abram Davis, Noah Davis, Peter Davis, Paul Davis, Michael Davis, and Jack Santos.
