Gene L. Ewing, 82 of Spottsville, KY passed away 3:23 AM Sunday July 22, 2012 at Methodist Hospital. He was born February 26, 1930 in Livermore, KY to Edward Booker and Minnie (Colborn) Ewing. He was retired from the Operating Engineers Local 181. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a Kentucky Folklife Whittler, owner of Willow Creek RV Park, and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 878. He also attended Spottsville Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Ewing and four sisters, Floretta Ewing, Louise Martin, Edna Fortney and Edith Dixon. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Judith Horn Ewing; one daughter, Patricia Ewing of Henderson, and one son Ricky Ewing and his wife Mavis of Spottsville; five grandchildren, Tresia Critser (Kenny), Thomas Goins, Tammy Mabe (Sammy), Ricky G. Ewing II (Kelli), and Melanie Dean (Bobby); three great-grand daughters, Lindsey Critser, Riley Mabe, and Sophia Dean all of Henderson, and nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday July 25, 2012 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Henderson Chapel. The Rev. Jeff Shouse will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion in Reed, KY with full military rites by American Legion Worsham Post # 40 of Henderson. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Tuesday July 24, 2012 and 8-10 AM Wednesday July 25, 2012 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Thomas Goins, Ricky G. Ewing II, Danny Smith, Bobby Dean, Al Bishop, Sammy Mabe, Kenny Critser, Clay Nall, and Josh Ewing. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Spottsville Missionary Baptist Church.
