George Leslie “Joe” Edwards, 82, of Henderson, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville.
He was born in Henderson County on June 27, 1942 to the late Gilbert S. and Mary Barbara (Hollifield) Edwards.
Joe retired from the City of Henderson and a member of Airline Baptist Church. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Army. In his youth, he was a floor bouncer at the former skating rink, Green’s Roller Dome. He was an animal lover and enjoyed being on the river, even teaching his family how to water ski. He had passion for working on tractors and attended many tractor pulls.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Agnes Stewart and brothers, James “Jimmy” Edwards, John H. Edwards, and Ray Edwards.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vyrdena Edwards; brothers-in-law, Ronald Tomlingson (Anna) and Michael Tomlingson (Alicia); sister-in-law, Pam Phillips (Tim); two nieces whom he loved like daughters, Cindy Sauer and Susie Martin; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. Monday, October 7 at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson with Jon Lambert officiating.
Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military rites conducted by the American Legion Worsham Post #40.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.
Pallbearers will be Ron Tomlingson, Michael Tomlingson, Chad Tomlingson, Tim Phillips, and Mike Sauer.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to New Hope Animal Rescue.
