Gerald (Jerry) A. Wright Sr., 69, passed away in his home on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda, of 47 years. He also leaves behind 3 children; Renee (Mick) Sipe, Garden Prairie, Ill; Sherry (Pat) Nugent, Owensboro, Ky; and Jerry (Jill) Wright Jr., Louisville, Ky; and a sister, Patricia (Al) Sabrinski. He was blessed with 5 Grandsons, Patrick and Nikolas Doherty, Jarrod Bruner, and Jacob and Jonah Nugent. He also has 2 great grandsons, Emmet and Bryson Doherty, along with several nieces and nephews. Jerry was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. He served 3 years and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Jerry also served the Henderson Community as a firefighter for several years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 40 and the Legion Riders in Henderson, Ky. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, wood working, and spending time with family and his yorkie, Barney. He was especially proud of the opportunity he had to co-pilot a T-6 Texan and his years of skydiving jumps. Services will be held at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson on Thursday, October 17th, 2019, with visitation from 2-5pm and services starting at 5:00 pm. Deacon Tim Nugent will officiate. Burial will take place at Kentucky Veteran's Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, KY on Friday, October 18th at 10:00 a.m. We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone involved in his care over the past 2 years - all of our friends and family, Dr. Hussain and all the staff at Methodist Oncology, Methodist Home care, and St. Anthony's Hospice.
