Gladys Lucille Clayton

October 10, 1909 — February 13, 2011

Gladys Lucille (Smith) Clayton, 101 peacefully passed away 2:25PM Sunday February 13, 2011 at her home of over 70 years. She was born October 10, 1909 in Hopkins Co. Ed Z. and Cora Bell (Robinson) Smith. She was a homemaker, a member of Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Madisonville, she was a KY Colonel, she loved family gatherings, fishing, traveling, reading and later books on tape and her church family. She was known as Mamaw to many others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Turner Clayton in 1977, two brothers Carl Smith and Thurman Smith and one sister Kathryn Gamblin. She is survived by two sons, Bill Clayton and his wife Geneva of Danville, KY, Jim Clayton of Nortonville, KY, two daughters Mary Ann Smith and her husband Donald of Earlington, KY, Caroline Clayton of Earlington, KY, ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, nineteen great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday 02-16-11 at Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington, KY wit Rev. Kenneth Blevins officiating. Her burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Earlington, KY. Her visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Reid-Walter Funeral Home and from 9:00 a.m. until the service time Wednesday. Memorial contribution may be made to Green River Hospice.
