Gwyndoline Cates

Gwyndoline (Harmon) Cates, 86 of Onton, Kentucky passed away on December 29, 2015 at Baptist Health in Madisonville. She was born in Onton, Ky on June 4, 1929 to the late Polk Harmon and Irene (Thompson) Harmon. She was Post Mistress at Onton Kentucky Post Office for several years before it was closed. She and her husband owned and operated the restaurant at the Slaughters Skating Rink, the Texaco Gas Station in Slaughters, Cates Grocery Store and G L Ceramics in Onton. She was a former Onton Eastern Star member. She was a member of Onton United Methodist Church for 76 years. She loved crafts, painting, music and bird watching. She was preceded in death by her parents, Polk Harmon and Irene Harmon Patterson, husband, L.B. Doc Cates, son Rodney Cates, 2 sisters Dora Nance and LeVera Osborn Marks, and step great grandson Tanner Vaught. She is survived by her children Donnie Cates and wife Judy of Sebree. Lisa Preston and husband Kent of Onton, Daughter in Law Sharon Cates of Onton. Grandchildren, Tracy (Kirby) Townsend, Chris (Chrissie) Cates, Lisa Carver, Rhonda (Joey) Vaught, Stephania Cates, and Blake Preston. Great grandchildren Tori Townsend, Kaylee Townsend, Tristan Cates, Katelyn Cates, Karsyn Cates, Tracen Cates, Danielle (John) Boswell, Roscoe Carver, Jonathan Cates, Hagan Buntin, Hanna Cates, Hunter Cates, Aiden Preston, Elijah Preston. Two step grandchildren Heidi Vaught and Hayley Vaught. Great-great grandchildren Adelyn Boswell and Braden Cates. Step great great grandchild Jayah Ray. Several nieces and nephews. Services will be on Saturday at 11:00 A.M at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Sebree with Brother Marty Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Onton Cemetery . Visitation will be on Friday, January 1, 2016 from 1:00-7:00 at the funeral home and on Saturday from 9:00 until service time. Pallbearers will be Chris Cates, Joey Vaught, Kirby Townsend, Blake Preston, Jonathan Cates, Roscoe Carver, Hagan Buntin, and Randy Buchanan.
