James Ashby

James Ashby James Ashby, 76 of Mortons Gap,Ky went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 27, at Baptist Health in Madisonville, Ky. He was born on December 10, 1936 in Hopkins County, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon “Buck” Ashby and Annie Carver Ashby, one brother, Neville Ashby and one sister, Dorothy Pierce. He worked at several coal mines, including South Hopkins and Sextet Coal Companies where he retired in 1991. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of First Baptist Church of Mortons Gap, Ky. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, JoAnn Hayes Ashby, a brother, Charles Ashby of Hartford, Ky. Four sons, Richard Ashby of Madisonville, Steve Ashby of Nebo, Phillip (Rocky) Ashby of Danville, Va and Tracy Ashby of Clarksville, Tenn. Two daughters, Joy Winebarger of Dexter, Ky and Stacie Ashby Walker of Grand Rivers, Fourteen grandchildren and Fifteen great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held, Saturday March 30th at 2:00 PM at Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington, Ky. with Brother Len Young and Brother Tommy Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Madisonville. Visitation will be held Friday, March 29th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM, until service time.
