James Blackston

James Alvis Blackston, 86, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away on August 4, 2026, at St. Anthony's Hospice, Lucy Smith King Care Center. Born on June 10, 1940, in Henderson, he was the son of the late Raymond H. and Edith M. Blackston.

James lived a life full of passion and dedication, enjoying the simple pleasures that brought him joy. A skilled carpenter, he took pride in his craft and the work of his hands. Beyond his profession, he found solace in hobbies that connected him to friends and family, including darts, bowling, hunting, and fishing. A devoted fan, he spent many cherished moments watching University of Kentucky basketball.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be profoundly missed. James is preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Blackston; his brother, Raymond C. "RC" Blackston; his sister, Mary Francis Blackston; and his beloved grandson, Charles Ray Lane.

James leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Deborah Blackston; four children, Ronda Todd (Ronnie), Tammy Jackson, James Daniel Blackston, and Paula Hawkins (Glen); a sister, Judy Stone (Glen); as well as six grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; one and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

Funeral services will be 12:00 PM, Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Henderson Chapel with Pastors Waltes and Melinda Lee officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 PM-8:00 PM, Friday, August 7 and 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, Saturday, August 8 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Corydon Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Todd, David Duncan, James D. Blackston, Kevin Blackston, Antonio Gilbert and Alex Todd.
