James (Jim) Merle Loehr, 86 of Slaughters, KY passed away at 8:45 AM Wednesday August 20, 2008 at Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, KY. He was born July 10, 1922 in Ashbyburg, KY. He was a lifelong farmer and WWII Veteran, where he earned several commendations including a bronze star. James was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and American Legion Post 243. Throughout his life, he enjoyed gardening, horses, UK Basketball, Nascar, camping, boating, and restoring vintage tractors and cars. James is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Schnapf Loehr; daughter Lea Ann (Greg) Sugg; daughter Linda (Sonny) Shelton; grandchildren Jill (Dowen) Dixon, Jacob Sugg, Jared Shelton, and Carly (Jon) Newton; Great grandchildren; Kelcie, Mikayla, Rylea and Isaac Dixon and Tori Cotton. Also surviving are a brother Kenneth (Kathryn) Loehr; a sister, Mildred Stippler and several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Lillian (Kaiser) Loehr; 3 brothers, Theodore, Gilbert and Marcie Loehr and his twin sister; Jeanette Brizius. Services will be held Saturday August 23, 2008 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sebree, KY. Father Jason McClure will officiate. Burial with full military rites will be in Springdale Cemetery in Sebree, KY Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 and Saturday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM at Tomblinson Funeral Home Sebree Chapel.
