Jason Chien Du, 70, of Henderson, formerly of Bellefontaine, OH, passed away on January 17, 2021 under the care of St. Anthony Hospice in Henderson, KY. He was born in Taoyuan, Taiwan on December 12, 1950. Having been the oldest of six children, he was the first to venture off the island in search of adventure and greater opportunity. He was a pioneer—an immigrant—who was driven to make a name for himself and to pursue the American Dream. Before becoming a US citizen, he spent years working tirelessly as a chef on cruise ships that travelled across the Mediterranean and the Pacific, and after landing stateside he worked in restaurants in Chicago and around Indiana, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. He was ambitious, social, and passionate. Excited to make a splash, Jason opened the first Chinese restaurant, House of Szechwan, in Bellefontaine, OH in September of 1987. It was an immediate success. He loved his customers very much and was known to walk around each table and pat his customers on the back and say, “How are you doing?” and “Good to see ya!” Days off work included singing karaoke or playing basketball with friends and family. He was a huge fan of bingo and played often after he retired. Most of all, he just loved sightseeing—taking long reflective drives—and enjoying the Ohio countryside. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Kathy Du; sons, Jason Thomas Du of Phoenix, Arizona and Eric Du of Columbus, Ohio. The funeral will be held at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson, Kentucky on Wednesday, January 20 at 1:30 p.m. with Bro. Jack Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson. A special memorial service will be held in Bellefontaine, OH on Thursday evening at 7:30 PM at Vineyard Christian Fellowship. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 20 from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jason Thomas Du, Eric Du, Larry Majors,Bud Majors,Stevie Majors, Paul Ross and Mark Ross.
