Joel Bruce Martin

Joel B. Martin, 84, of Henderson, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the compassionate care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. He was born in Henderson County to the late John L. and Evadean (Stone) Martin.

Joel led a remarkable life characterized by service and dedication. He served his country as a proud veteran of the US Navy. Following his military service, Joel embarked on a diverse career path, excelling in each role he undertook. He served as a claim’s investigator for Shelter Insurance, contributed to the safety of his community as a former police officer for the Henderson Police Department, and showcased his talents as a licensed barber. Additionally, Joel was the proprietor of a Funeral Escort business, demonstrating his commitment to assisting families during difficult times.

A man of faith, Joel attended Sebree General Baptist Church, where he found strength and solace in his spiritual community. He cherished moments spent with his loved ones and was known for his passion for travel and woodworking.

In addition to his professional achievements and hobbies, Joel was a devoted family man. His love and devotion knew no bounds, and he leaves behind cherished memories that will be forever treasured by his family and friends.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Evadean Martin, his daughter Tonya Barber.

He is survived by his children Jason Martin, William and Ruby Martin DeLisa (Mark) Hollis, ; his sisters Judith (Bobby) Littrel , Beverly(Carroll) Davis and Minnie Martin; grandchildren Keira Hollis, Briona Hollis, Malina Hollis, Aliina and Jerome Martin, and great-granddaughter Sofia.

Funeral services to honor and celebrate Joel’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson, with Brother David Bumpus officiating. A private burial will take place at West Kentucky Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the funeral home, and on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
