Johnnie R. “Cotton” Nelson, 87, of Henderson, KY, went home to the Lord on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at West Kentucky Veterans Center. He was born in Henderson on February 5, 1934 to the late Johnnie and Jessie (Holeman) Nelson. Cotton was a man of Christian faith and member of Solid Rock Tabernacle. He was a foreign war veteran and served honorably in the United States Army. Cotton retired from Alcoa. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and life, friends, and family. In addition to his parents, Cotton was preceded in death by three daughters, Barbara (Nelson) Hall, Kathy Nelson, and Mary (Nelson) Harmon; his brother, Riley Nelson and sister, Marcellar (Nelson) Inge. Survivors include grandchildren, John Nelson, Joey Hall, Jennifer Hall, and Cassie Nelson; and great grandchildren. A memorial service with full military rites conducted by the American Legion Worsham Post 40 Burial Detail and Honor Guard will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Solid Rock Tabernacle, 410 S. Green Street in Henderson. Pastor Mike Ward will officiate. Visitation will be at the church, Saturday, February 5, from 10 a.m. until service time. Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson is entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Western KY Veterans Program fund, 926 Veterans Drive, Hanson, KY 42413.
