Joseph Haywood

April 6, 1937 — March 10, 2015

Joseph (Joe) E. Haywood, 77 of Hanson, died on March 10, 2015 at his home. He was born on April 6, 1937 in Hanson to the late Hubbard and Jennie Klever Haywood. He retired from UC Milk Company where he was a route salesman for 43 years. He was a member of Pritchett’s Chapel, Hanson Masonic Lodge #766, Rizpah Shriners, and Elks Lodge #738. He coached Jaycee Baseball and was Hanson Hunter Field Commissioner for several years. He was a Kentucky Colonel and Hanson City Commissioner for 18 plus years. Joe Haywood was a loyal and resilient man with a great sense of humor. He loved his family, sports, the City of Hanson and the people who live there. As a lifelong resident of Hanson, Kentucky, Joe traveled to all 50 states but was always happy to return home. Joe left a lasting impression on everyone he met, including the many children he met as a baseball coach or as friends of his children and grandchildren. Their friends quickly became his lifetime friends as well. This is how he came to be known as “Pop” to so many. We will miss him beyond belief. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and one son, David Haywood. He is survived by his wife, Luann Haywood of Hanson, his daughters, Janet (Dennis) Herr of Evansville, IN, Karen Dame (Kirby Hoodenpyle) of Madisonville, Rita (Sid) Joest of Evansville, Teresa (Jim) Anthony of Waynesville, NC, Linda (Hugh) Lockman of Hilton Head, SC, and grandchildren Austin Haywood, Chaysen Dame, Kayte Dame, Collin Herr, Lauren Herr, Avery Herr, Allie Rustad, Sarah Haywood, Megan Kessell, and Anna Joest and 6 great grandchildren. Services will be on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11:00 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Slaughters-Hanson Chapel with Pastor William Moore officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, March 13 from 3-8pm and on Saturday 9 am until service time. There will be a Masonic service held at the funeral home on Friday evening, March 13th. Active pallbearers will be Austin Haywood, Chaysen Dame, Collin Herr, Carroll Coffman, Woody Coffman, and David Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Coffman, Horace Clayton, Bill Cardwell, Troy Cates, and Harvey Oglesby Jr. Memorial contributions can be made to Hanson Masonic Lodge #766.
