Leslie Neel Eargood

October 19, 1933 — January 7, 2024

Leslie Neel Eargood, 90, passed away on Sunday January 7, 2024, at the Lucy King Care Center.

She was born October 19, 1933 in Henderson, Kentucky to Newton Wesley and Sue Lockett Mitchell Neel. Though her family moved around for several years, Henderson was always her home. She attended Barrett Manual Training High School and The University of Kentucky where she was reacquainted with the soon-to-be love of her life Albert “Bud” Eargood, Jr. They were married on August 30, 1958.

Throughout their 65 years together they enjoyed entertaining, traveling, raising their Boxer dogs, and spending time with family. They were founding members of the Henderson County UK Alumni Club where she was the secretary for over 40 years. She was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of the UK Alumni Association. She worked at Sureway Foods for 7 years in payroll and, in 1988, began her career as a Law firm receptionist, most recently working at Stoll, Keenon, & Ogdon in Evansville, IN. She loved her work friends and retired only 2 years ago.

As a young lady she sailed the pacific and traveled to Europe with friends. She and Bud would return to Europe a couple more times in later years and once children came along, family vacations in Florida became the travel destination.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant brother, John William Neel, her maternal grandparents, Herman E & Margaret L Moss Mitchell, her paternal grandparents, John W and Anna E Roark Neel, and her cousins, Roxy Mitchell Baas and Linda Mitchell Oliver.

Leslie is survived by her husband, Albert “Bud” Eargood, Jr.; her favorite Boxer, Sam; daughter, Elaine (David) of Knoxville, TN; son, Neel of Louisville, KY; four grandchildren: her most precious granddaughter, Rachel of Knoxville, sweet Mandy of Covington, KY, Eric of Indianapolis and Matt (Katherine) of Madrid, Spain; her sister-in-law, Helene “Teed” (Don) Hunter; niece, Helene (Brandon); and great nephew, Hunter, all of Evansville, IN.

The family would like to thank the staff of St Anthony’s Hospice care and the Lucy Smith King Care Center for their compassionate and wonderful care during the last month of her life. They are an incredible group of people. Mom requested that expressions of sympathy be made as donations to either St. Anthony’s, the Presbyterian Church or the UK Alumni Association.
