Liston Thomas (Tom) Gibbs, 86, of Corydon, Kentucky, entered into eternal peace on Friday August 8, 2014 at his home, surrounded by family and friends. Tom is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 43 years, Lois Ann Gibbs. He is preceded in death by his father, Alex Gibbs; mother, Myrtle Ditzer Gibbs; his brothers, John, Gordon, and William, infant sister Catherine Gibbs, son Larry Gibbs, step-son Steven M. Miles, and step-daughter Brenda Lee Ballard. Tom is survived by sister Margaret Ann Gillenwater of Remington, Indiana; daughter Catherine Liles of Evansville, Indiana; step-daughters Candice N. Knapp and Katherine Ann Powell of Evansville, Indiana; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many-many Special Children adopted in their hearts by Tom and Lois. Tom was born on September 26, 1927 in Sturgis, Kentucky. He is a member of Missionary Baptist Church, but attends Corydon General Baptist Church. He is a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army Air Force. Retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 31 years, he also worked at Bernardin for 6 years. He spent three years on the work "Measured By A Grapevine: A History of Corydon, Kentucky, 1847-1992" with Mary Edith Prichett, Liston T. Gibbs, City Historian, Director, Researcher, and Writer. The history was published by the City of Corydon, Kentucky in 1992. Tom was awarded Citizen of the Year in 2001, and Honorable Distinguished Citizen an Historian of the City of Corydon, Kentucky, in 2003. A member of the Corydon Lions Club since 1977 where he has served in the past as President, Treasurer. A past member of the Corydon Civil Defense, and member of the Morganfield Senior Center. Tom was a member of The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. Services will be held for Tom Gibbs 11:00 AM Tuesday August 12, 2014 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Henderson Chapel. Rev. Rudy Moser will officiate. Burial will be in Corydon Cemetery. A life celebration will be Monday 5-8PM and Tuesday 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. The family of Tom Gibbs wish to thank all who have cared for and watched over him, and have helped him in so many ways. Tom was truly blessed with good friends and special children. A special thanks to the staff of St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Corydon General Baptist church or St. Anthony’s Hospice.
