Lula Mae Hicks

Lula Mae Hicks, age 88, left this life at 3:22AM, Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Lucy Smith King Care Center, under the care of St. Anthonys Hospice, with family by her side. Lula Mae was a charter member of Lawndale Baptist Church for 55 years where she had taught Sunday School and was a G.A Leader. She worked 38 years, mostly as a manager of Hicks Dollar General Store and at Brownies Restaurant, where she met the love of her life, Louis Hicks, who she married September 11, 1948 and shared life until May 25, 2008. Lula Mae is also preceded in death by her parents, Elliott and Della Tillerson and Step-Mother, Bonnie Wilkerson, Her brothers William Robert and Goebel Tillerson and her sister, Lola West. Survivors include one son, Leon Hicks and his wife, Wanda, one daughter and caregivers, Mary Lou Shoulders and her husband, Gary;one sister Mary Ann Rigdon and her husband Wayne; two grandsons Joshua Hicks and Jacob Hicks and his wife Amy; two great grandchildren, Joseph Hicks and Katherine Hicks, all of Henderson; 4 nieces, 3 nephews and several great and great-great nieces and nephews; and cousins. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday April 27, 2016 at Lawndale Baptist Church with Rev. Orbley Ramsey will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery. Friends may call 3:00 PM till 8:00 PM at Lawndale Baptist Church and on Wednesday 9:00 AM till service time. Pallbearers will be Bill West, Keith Hicks, Buddy Wint, Sammy Rideout, Louis Cook and David Rigdon.
