Luvena (Oakley) Walker, 98, of Madisonville passed away Monday August 6, 2012 . She was born May 1, 1914 in Dixon, KY to the late Joe and Rosa (Hill) Oakley. She was a homemaker, and was the oldest member of the Slaughters United Methodist Church, graduated from Dixon High School where she played on the girls basketball team, loved to quilt, sew, cross stitch, and do needlepoint. She was called “Granny” by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard “R.L.” Walker, 2 brothers Tom Ed Oakley, and Ilaff Oakley, and 1 sister Lillian Shoulders. She is survived by a daughter: Barbara Walker Jewell of Madisonville, KY 2 grandchildren: Jamie and her husband Terry Brown of Hanson, KY Jeff and his wife Shelly Jewell of Madisonville, KY 4 great-grandchildren: Katelyn Brown, Karah Brown, Bryce Jewell, LindyJewell Caretaker: Jean Whitfield Nieces and nephews Services will be 2:00 PM Friday August 10, 2012 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Slaughters-Hanson Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Young officiating. Burial will be in Slaughters Cemetery in Slaughters, KY. Visitation will be 11:00 AM-2:00 PM Friday August 10 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Slaughters United Methodist Church, or to Green River Hospice.
