Mabel Irene (Kellems) Eckert

Friday, March 23, 2018 at 6:30pm Mabel Irene (Kellems) Eckert, 88 of Henderson, peacefully completed her journey to "A Cabin in the corner of Glory Land" that she used to sing about. She suffered from dementia and was a resident in the Memory Care Unit of Redbanks Nursing Home for the past ten months where she received the best of care from her Nurse Practitioner, all of her nurses, aids, and therapists. Mabel was born May 28, 1929 in Troy, IN to Roy Henry and Stella Irene (King) Kellems. She worked hard all of her life & held many positions, but she retired from Meade Johnson and was of the General Baptist faith. She loved God and people and was a kind, compassionate, caring, and giving person who always put everyone else's needs before her own. Helping everyone she could was her passion and mission in life. For many years she enjoyed reading her Bible, taking trips on a whim with family, planting & tending a garden, working in her yard, working Sudoku, crossword, and word search puzzles; and watching old TV shows. In additions to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband Charles Andrew Chumbley and her ex-husband, Robert Martin Eckert; two brothers: Edward Junior Kellems and Marvin Eugene Kellems; and an infant niece, Debby Kellems. She is survived by two children, Judith Ann (Chumbley) Sawyer (and her spouse, Richard “Buz”) of Henderson and Richard Lee Chumbley of Evansville. Grandchildren are: Melissa JoAnn Sawyer, Erin Michelle Sawyer, Megan & Bryce Keel, and Tara Chumbley. Great Grandchildren: Rebecca Grace McGarrh and several more. Nieces & nephews: Bob Kellems, Mike Kellems, Lisa Duncan, Tammy Watson, Ed Kdllems, Karen Adams, Keith Kellems, Mark Kellems, and several great nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, March 30, 2018 at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson, KY. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Thursday, March 29, 2018 and Friday 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Birdseye Cemetery, Birdseye, IN. Pallbearers will be Keith Kellems, Mark Kellems, Edward Kellems, Mike Kellems, Matthew Kellems, Josh Kellems, Rick Chumbley and Marty Eckert. Honorary pallbearer will be Bob Kellems.
