Marvin Lavern Dill, also known as Sonny, Pickle, and Papaw, 87, of Robards, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at home.
He was born in Evansville on May 1, 1937, and from that day forward, he was destined to be a jokester. Known for keeping everyone on their toes, he could crack a joke in any situation—whether it was appropriate or not—and had a knack for turning even the most serious moments into a burst of laughter. If there was a punchline to be found, you could count on him to deliver it! Marvin was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and enjoyed hunting, fishing, eating, sleeping, drinking Maker’s Mark, and hanging out at Kenny’s Auto.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie Mae (Alderson) Soltz; son, Marty Dill; sisters, Laura Mae Dill and Delores Ann; and brother, Bobby Dill.
Survivors include his daughter, Theresa Shelton (Steve); grandson and caregiver, Marvin Ray “Joshua” Dill (Keshia); grandchildren, Nikki Shelton, Courtney Yeiser (Brandon), and Ike Shelton (Kayla); 12 great-grandchildren; caregiver, Kathey Winstead; and, lovingly referred to as his “next wife,” Deb Ervin.
Memorial services will be Saturday September 28, 2024 4:00 PM- 6:00 PM at 8663 John Steele Road Robards Kentucky 42452.
The family would like to give special thanks to his hospice nurses, Alyssa, Theresa, Haley, and his angel, Cherie.
Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson is in charge of arrangements.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Anthony’s Hospice.
