Mary Lou Johnson

Mary Lou (Cary) Johnson, 89 of Sebree, KY passed away Friday August 25, 2023 at Redbanks Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Sebree.

She was born in Webster County, KY on January 25, 1934 to the late Alva and Helen (Coffman) Cary.

Mary Lou had worked in the dietary department at Colonial Terrace and Medco for several years and retired from the Activities Department at Redbanks Colonial Terrace at the age of 80. She was a member of Sebree General Baptist Church, Dorcass Missionary Society and sang in several gospel groups. She was known for her sweet rolls and homemade bread. Mary Lou loved spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Gertie Stephens, Ruth Harth and Mabel Ottens, 1 brother, Herbert Cary.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years C. E. “Jake” Johnson

3 children; Eddie Johnson and wife Teresa of Dixon, KY, Melody Fisher and husband Bruce of Smith Mills, KY and Tonja Townsend and husband Darrell of Slaughters, KY.

6 grandchildren; Matt Melton, Sue Ellen (John) Penley, Cary (David) Hicks, Adam Townsend, Lindsey (Ryan) Rogers and Todd (Kassie) Townsend.

11 great grandchildren; Margaret and Hammond Penley, Fisher and Wallace Hicks, Emma, Carson and Bentley Rogers, Libby and Jax Townsend, Gracie and Rayleigh Alexander.

Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday August 29th at Tomblinson Funeral Home Sebree Chapel.

Brother Keith Wilcox will officiate.

Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery in Sebree.

Visitation will be Monday August 28, 2023 from 4:00 until 7:00 and Tuesday August 29, 2023 from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Matt Melton, Adam Townsend, Todd Townsend, Cary and David Hicks, Lindsey and Ryan Rogers, John Penley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Inky Overby, Bobby Littrell, Jackie Pryor, John Daniel, Tommy Catlin and Jerry Faith.
