Mary Alice Smith, age 78, of Hanson, Kentucky, died January 3, 2011. She was brn January 8, 1932, in Victoria, Texas, the daughter of the late Lee Arthur and Fadra Williams Davidson. She was a retired Registered Nurse after 40 years of dedicated service. She was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church of Hanson, Kentucky. She received her Nursing degree in 1954, from Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She began her nursing career at King’s Daughters Hospital in Greenville, Mississippi, and ended her career as a Health Department Nurse. Along the way she also cared for patients at St. Mary’s Hospital in Dermott, Arkansas, various doctors offices and Wilmot Nursing Home. Her whole life she was dedicated to helping others in one way or another. One of her most meaningful memories was a mission trip to Honduras with the First Baptist Church of McGehee, Arkansas. She was a volunteer at the Chicot Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Lake Village, Arkansas, for many years before relocating to Kentucky. She was honored for her outstanding and dedicated service as volunteer of the year in 1999. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, J. R. Smith, a son, David Smith, and two brothers Julius and Calvin Davidson. She survived by one brother Roy (Shirley) Davidson of Hanson, KY, two sisters Minnie Crow (JW) of Lake Village, AR, Virginia Callaway of Shreveport, LA, and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday January 6 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Slaughters-Hanson Chapel. Bro. Donald Duncan and Bro. Gary Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery in Hanson, KY Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 and Thursday Noon until Service time at the funeral home. Pall Bearers are Wayne Davidson, Randy Davidson, Jeff Callaway, Mike Brown, Steve Brown, Glenn Crow, and Spencer Crow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church Honduras Mission Trip Fund, 312 Seamens Drive, McGehee, AR 71654; St. Jude’s, Memphis, TN or the Salvation Army.
