Mattie Geneva Jenkins, affectionately known as “Jean” and lovingly called “Nannie” by all who knew her, passed away peacefully at her home on July 21, 2025, at 7:30 P.M, surrounded by the love of her family.
Nannie, a devoted woman of faith and family, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by love. She was a pillar of strength, kindness, and grace whose life was a living testament to her deep love for God and the church.
Nannie found her greatest joy in being a mother grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her arms and heart were always open, and her home was a place of warmth, comfort, and unconditional love.
One of her most cherished traditions was cooking Sunday dinners—Her Home was always a place of comfort, filled with the aroma of her famous Sunday dinner and the sound of laughter from family and friends gathered around her table. Feeding others was her love language, and she did so with a servant’s heart. With every dish, she shared not just food, but laughter, wisdom, and the kind of love only a grandmother can give.
Nannie’s legacy lives on in the faith she passed down, the family she nurtured, and the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tracy and Mattie Wooten; her beloved husband Tommy of 56 years; and her daughter, Pamela.
Mattie is survived by her devoted children: son Rick Jenkins of Wadesville, IN; daughters Sherry Green (Barry) of Geneva, KY; and Terri Thomas (Bert) of Henderson, KY. Her legacy continues through her seven cherished grandchildren: Dusty Lloyd, Tracy Green, Jason Thomas, Erin Poynter, Chris Green, Courtney Greene, and Matthew Thomas; her 14 great-grandchildren; and her precious great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Tracy Green, Chris Green, Matthew Thomas, Michael Lloyd, Michael Greene, and Jermaine Poynter—each an honored part of Nannie’s story and strength.
Visitation will be held at Tomblinson Funeral Home, Henderson Chapel on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow immediately after.
Nannie’s life was a testament to grace, faith, and unconditional love. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
