Melba Faye Ligon

August 7, 1936 — December 28, 2020

Melba Faye Ligon, 84, of Henderson, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 2:23 p.m. at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. She was born in Cincinnati, OH on August 7, 1936 to the late Leonard Howard Neely, Sr. and Ruby Claire Neely. She taught at Immanuel Baptist Temple Daycare in Henderson and retired from Big Rivers Electric in 1996, then becoming a fulltime “Nannie.” Her family was the most important part of her life and she was a mom or “Nannie” to even a stranger. She was a ray of sunshine to anyone she met and loved harder than anyone. Her infectious laugh, expertise in any home-cooked meal, and love for crafting baby dolls, sewing, canning, gardening, Mary Kay, and more are memories that will last a lifetime. She made a profession of Baptist faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her faith in God defined her and she is now celebrating with loved ones in Heaven. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Lynn Ligon, Sr.; sister, Barbara Davis; brother, Leonard Howard Neely, Jr.; and sons-in-law, Barry Wayne Murch and William Haire. Survivors include six children, Jerry Ligon (Karen) of Henderson, Ressie Haire of Henderson, Lynn Ligon of Henderson, Pam Floyd (Neil) of Henderson, Amy LaRue (Greg) of Henderson, and Melanie Koonce (Tony) of Sebree; 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be private with Bro. Nathan Whisnant officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2021 at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson. Pallbearers will be Brooks Ligon, Zack Ligon, Stefan Koonce, Xander Koonce, Tony Koonce, Greg LaRue, Lynn Ligon, and Neil Floyd. Honorary pallbearers will be Jessica Larew, Sara Beth Bickett, Katie Ellenburg, Mykenzie Koonce, Sae Koonce, Kelly Turner, Yvonne Hall, Brittany Thomason, and Tricia Nelson.
