Michael Ray Thompson

Michael Ray Thompson, age 66, of Henderson, KY, passed away at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville, IN on Saturday, August 27, 2022, after suffering a stroke. Michael was born in Pensacola, FL on September 13, 1955 and later lived in Evansville, IN and Henderson, KY. Michael graduated from the University of Southern Indiana. Michael was a natural talent and genius Software Engineer- he solved the problems no one else could and in record time. Michael worked at Gibbs Die Casting for over 20 years, owned the software development contract firm Echo3, and most recently worked as an Engineering Lead at DistroKid. Michael was youthful and fun loving, living a life inspired by the Walt Disney quote “Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.” Michael loved getting a laugh by sharing his dad jokes with anyone who would listen. He was philanthropic, sponsoring children in need through Children Incorporated for 48 years. As hobbies, Michael enjoyed experimental cooking, bread baking, bird watching, mixology, TV shows and movies (The Three Stooges, Star Trek, Star Wars, The Honey Mooners, and the Marx Brothers). Michael was preceded in death by his sisters Gayle Holland and Vickie Duncan. Survivors include his wife Cathy (Pugh) Thompson; daughters, Lisa (Scott) Gurgol and Julia (Samuel) Thompson Coulter; stepson, Nathanial White; grandson, Rowan Gurgol; niece, Adrienne (Dylan) Owen; nephew, Blaine (Linda) Kerner; long-time friends, Keith and Rozani Staton; goddaughter, Julia Staton. Michael’s family would like to extend special thanks to DistroKid for giving Michael the opportunity to thrive, have fun, and be himself at work. Relatives and friends are invited to Michael’s Visitation from 3pm to 7pm Thursday, September 1 at Tomblinson Funeral Home, Henderson Chapel. A Memorial Service to celebrate Michael’s life will be held at Tomblinson Funeral Home, Henderson Chapel on Friday, September 2 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Children Incorporated or the American Stroke Association.
