. Paul Otis Lee age 79 of Mortons Gap, Ky. passed away at 3:02 p.m. Tuesday 01·19-10 at the Hillside Villa Rehabilitation Center in Madisonville, Ky. He was born August 14, 1930 in Mortons Gap, Ky. to Ode and Nevelyn Prince Lee. He was of the Baptist faith and attended the First Baptist Church in Mortons Gap, Ky. He worked as a federal mine inspector and trained mine rescue teams and first aid teams and he was the chief judge of the National Mine Rescue and First Aid Teams competition for several years. He assisted in several rescues of trapped and injured miners over the years. He received the Joseph A. Holmes Medal of Honor Award in 1970, the National Miner of the Year Award in 1991 and a V.I.P. member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a Kentucky Colonel. He loved all kinds of sports and coached Pee Wee and Little League baseball. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and great fan of U. K. basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He was preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his wife of 61years, Norma Lee of Mortons Gap, Ky., one daughter, Paulette and her husband Lewis Williams of Fayetteville, Tn., one son, Jonathan and his wife Lisa of Hanson, Ky., two sisters, Betty Walker of Newburg, In. and Judy Burden of Mortons Gap, Ky., four granddaughters, Laura and her husband Matt Vaughn of Murfreesboro.Tn., Aryn Lee of Lexington, Ky., Alexa Lee and Audra Lee both of Hanson, Ky., two great-grandchildren Steven Vaughn and Sasha Vaughn both of Murfreesboro, Tn., and several nieces and nephews. His funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday 01-22-10 at Reid-Watters funeral home in Earlington, Ky. with Bro. Len Young and Elder Charles Delvloss officiating. His burial will be in Old Salem Cemetery in Mortons Gap, Ky. His visitation will be 5:00·8:00 p.m. Thursday 01-21-10 at Reid- Walters Funeral Home and from 9:00 a.m. until the service time on Friday. Instead of flowers contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Mortons Gap, Ky.
