Roy T. "Ikey" Cates, 72, of Madisonville, died on Friday, January 17, 2014 at Baptist Health Systems in Madisonville. He was born in Hopkins County on March 8, 1941 to Roy William Cates and Bessie Mae (Wiley) Cates. He was retired from Caney Creek Coal and Hopkins County Public Works. He was a Vietnam Air Force Veteran, member of Pritchett’s Chapel Church, and member of American Legion Post #6 in Madisonville. Ikey was also a Kentucky Colonel and member of the Hanson Lions Club In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters Lena Jones and Nora Edith DeVylder, and a brother, Paul M. Cates. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Cates of Hanson, KY 4 Children, Ricky Cates and wife Paula of Lanesville, IN, Troy (T-Roy) Cates and wife Jessica of Hanson, KY Farrah Cates-Thornton and husband Wes of Lexington, KY Jason Cates and wife Kelley of Hanson, KY 2 sisters, Maryann Dorris and husband Wayne of Clay, KY Gladys Fox and husband Tony of Madisonville, KY 7 grandchildren 2 great grandchildren several nieces and nephews. Services at 11 am Monday, January 20, 2013 at Tomblinson Slaughters-Hanson Chapel. Brother Steve Terry will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6 and Monday 9 am until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, KY at a later date. Full military rites will be conducted at the funeral home following the funeral service. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Charity of your Choice.
