Ruby Ray (Eastwood) Darr, born February 15, 1927 to Elvis Eastwood and Addie Ray Eastwood, went to rest after a valiant fight with COPD. She was predeceased by her loving husband, James R. (Jack) Darr, son-in-law Bruce D. Jones and all her siblings, Edwin, Fred, and Jaunita Eastwood, Joy Crowder, and Dorcas Collins. Mrs. Darr has been a staple of the Sebree business community having owned and operated Friendly Market for fifty-two years. She is known as a compassionate supporter of people in need and through her grocery store, over the years has provided much needed assistance to the less fortunate as well as those in temporary distress. Some became like family and she cherished their friendship. She was born and reared on a farm near Sebree and after marriage she and Jack resided in Evansville from 1943-1952. Her passion was current events and politics. She loved the Democratic Party and was especially fond of President Carter, having autographed copies of several of his books. Many of her customers were apprised of her opinions, whether asked or not. She was, indeed , a true jewel to the community and a supportive, loving wife and mother. Mrs. Darr was Kentucky Colonel and very proud of this honor. She was a member of Sebree United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. She is survived by her children Doris D. Jones of Atlanta, GA, Joan (Jim) Denton of Madisonville, KY, Dennis (Karolyn) Darr of Clay, KY, Paula (Charles) Johnson of The Villages, FL, Darby (Bob) Hunter of Versailles, KY, and Steve Darr of Sebree, KY. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday November 17, 2012 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Sebree Chapel with Chaplain Deborah McBride and Pastor James Shuck officiating. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 PM Friday November 16, 2012 and 9:00 AM-2:00 PM at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their gratitude to her many caregivers over the years and especially most recently St. Anthony’s Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice.
