Ruth "Kate" Smith

Ruth “Kate” Smith 95 of Henderson, Ky. passed away October 09, 2015 at home surrounded by loved ones while under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. She was a member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church since 1991. She was born in Fannin, Ms. on October 01, 1920. She owned and operated Kate’s Style Salon in Greenville, Ms. for nineteen years. Having lived in Staples, MN., Vincennes, In. and Lake Village AR., she moved to Henderson, Ky. to live near family. She was an avid gardener, winning Garden of the Season in 1998, played cards at the Senior Center, and loved to travel. She was active in the Hospital Auxilary in Vincennes and Lake Village. A friend to many and beloved by all, her passion was spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Neale J. Smith; parents, Arthur W. and Bernice G. Swilley; three brothers, A.W., Dicky, and Jimmy Swilley; and two sisters, Mary Hyatt and Mildred Moore. Survivors include three daughters; Becky Bowen and her husband Jim of Terre Haute, IN, Melissa Coy and her husband Paul of Henderson and Jolea Sampolesi of Little Rock AR; seven grandchildren; Commander Chris Bowen and his wife Ernestine, Kim, Jenny and Steph Bowen, Wendy Coy, C. J. Belt and her husband Barrett, Amy Stephens and her husband Matt; ten great grandchildren, Will, Tyler, Brandon and Neko Chamberlain, Isabelle Bowen, Kaitlynn Coy, Lincoln Ray, Logan and Evan Belt and Ashton Barnes; and beloved nieces and nephews. Services will be Monday Oct. 12th 2015 at 10:00 am at Tomblinson Funeral Home, Henderson Chapel. Dr. Hollis Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Sunday Oct 11th from 2:00 PM till 4:00 PM, and from 9:00 till service time on Monday Oct 12th at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jim Bowen, Paul Coy, Barrett Belt, Logan Belt, Tyler Chamberlain and Brandon Chamberlain. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Anthony’s Hospice.
