Shirley Wallace Ranes, 95 of Sebree, KY passed away Friday October 24, 2025 at his home under the care of St. Anthony's Hospice. Shirley was born in Slaughters, KY on March 9, 1930 to Marvin and Lora Ranes. He was a Korean War Veteran having served in the US Army. He was very proud to have served his country. He was a member of Sebree Methodist Church and a Kentucky Colonel. Shirley was a hard worker and enjoyed country life. When he was young, he loved working on his family farm with his dad. After marrying Carolyn, the love of his life, he went to work at Gulf Chemical in Henderson and later retired from Texas Gas in 1989. A love of music found him playing the spoons with the Grandmas and Grandpas Band, and the Senior Citizens Group for many years. He liked being known as the Spoon Man. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Orton Ranes, a grandson Jeremy Tyler Ranes, brother Dorris Ranes and three sisters, Roberta Winstead, Betty Knight and Delores Johnson. Survivors include two children, Dennis Ranes (Kathi) of Henderson, KY and Teresa Townsend (Mack) of Dixon, KY. Four grandchildren, Shaun Townsend (Rachel), Chris Ranes (Stephani), Eric Ranes (Jamie), Rebecca Lewis (Jeremy) and granddaughter-in-law, Jessica Ranes Thomas (Joe). Thirteen great grandchildren, Sydney Turley (Andrew), Hadley and Grey Ranes, Ella and Harper Ranes, Mason and Jase Ranes, Will Thomas, Makayla, Tucker and Ali Townsend, Camden and Conleigh Lewis. Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday October 28th at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Sebree. Brother James Shuck will officiate. Burial will follow in Slaughters Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Worsham Post 40 from Henderson, KY. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Shaun Townsend, Chris Ranes, Eric Ranes, Mason Ranes, Tucker Townsend and Camden Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Grey Ranes, Jase Ranes and Will Thomas. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Hospice.
