Thomas (Tom) Edward Masters, 81, of Sebree, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Linda White Hospice Center in Evansville with family and Jack dog by his side. Tom was born August 7, 1940 in Providence, KY to Lillian Thompson Masters and Willard Stratten Masters. Tom was an Army and Navy veteran. He served in France, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, Cuba, Korea, Okinawa, and Vietnam. After he came home, he worked for American Bridge as a welder. He owned a barber shop in Ft. Pierce, FL before buying the Sebree Barber Shop in 1992, selling it in 2016. At that time, retirement didn’t interest Tom and his wife, Carolyn, so they opened Odds & Ends, where he began woodworking and making canes. He loved hunting and deer season was a season all its own. Fishing was another season where fish stories and fish fries were a weekend thing. Tom was a member of Bailey Onton Lodge and Ft. Pierce, FL Lodge. He was a Kentucky Colonel. In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his son, Tommy Masters Jr.; an infant brother, Roy and brother, Ottis Masters; and baby sister, Sandra Lee. Tom is survived by his wife of 28 years, Carolyn Masters; children, Scott Masters (Laura), Rick Masters, Juanita Ehmke, Lisa Hemminger (Dan), Tonya Laviola, Dawn Beckman (Lee), Brant Hager, Misty Masters, Joe Masters (Lisa), Sean Masters (Kelley), Jimmy Masters, Kathy James, and Josh James (Meghan); brother, Willard Masters; sister, April Nahgahgwon (Jerry); sister-in-law, Suzanne Masters; and his sidekick, Jackdog. He was “Poppy” to Thomas Edward III, Kohlton Hunter, Dalton Hunter, Lexie James, Mackenzie James, Saylor James, Kingston James, Jeffrey Gibson, and Samantha Gibson; “Grandpa Tom” to many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and “Barber Man” to many a little kid getting a sucker and half dollar. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, July 25 at Tomblinson Funeral Home, Sebree Chapel with James and Chip Palmer officiating. Burial will follow at Springdale Cemetery. The family has requested all visitors wear a mask to help prevent the spread of COVID. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday, July 24 from 2-6 p.m. with Masonic services at 6 p.m. and on Monday, July 25 from 9 a.m. until service time.
