Tommie Merlene Comer

January 9, 1938 — November 6, 2018

Tommie Merelene Comer, known by most as Tommie Sue, age 80, born January 9, 1938 in Harlan, Ky but resided in Henderson, Ky, finally moved into her heavenly residence in the sky on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 10:40 am, thus removing from this world one of the most beautiful and spunky spirits to ever exist. And if we know anything about Tommie, I guarantee it still wasn't clean enough for her! Tommie was a former member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 40 in Henderson, of which she took extreme pride, VFW in Providence, and Eagles Club in Central City.  A spitfire of a woman, you knew not to ask her anything if you weren't prepared to hear the truth. An avid lover of gardening and canning, fishing, horseshoes, coffee, cooking, and family gatherings, she made it her mission to always fill the room with laughter and create memories to last a million lifetimes. On the rare occasions she felt the need to discipline her children or grandchildren, you could rest assured no one was scarred for life by spending a day shucking corn or snapping green beans. Ask all around, no one on earth makes a better chocolate pie, peanut butter roll, batch of divinity, hot dill pickles, homemade spaghetti or cornbread stuffing that was a requirement at every Thanksgiving gathering. A jokester till the end, Tommie made sure to lighten the mood during her most recent hospital stay by picking fun at her family members and keeping them in stitches. Nothing meant more to Tommie than ensuring each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren knew exactly how special they were and just how much she loved them.   Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Kate Christian, brothers Bob, Bill and Buck, sisters Newa, Bea, Delina, and Thelma, and the many friends and loved ones, including Carl Huffman and Ray Thomas.  Tommie is survived by one sister, Betty Jane, her children Carla Tennyson, Kathy and Paul Doom, Tim Huffman, Kim and Bobby Avery, her grandchildren, Kristin Murray Kurtz, Natasha Avery, Derrek Huffman, Tyler Avery, Tiffany Hagan, Kera Tennyson, Matthew Doom, Dustin Huffman and Michael Doom, sixteen great grandchildren, with another on its way and last but certainly not least, the love of her life, D.K. Comer.   Funeral services will be held at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson, Ky on Friday, November 9 at 1:00 pm. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, November 8 from 5-7 pm. Burial services will follow funeral at Roselawn Cemetary in Henderson, Ky. Derrek Huffman, Dustin Huffman, Tyler Avery, Matthew Doom, Neal Cantley, and John Kurtz will serve as pallbearers with her granddaughters to serve as honorary pallbearers.   Special thanks to Redbanks Towers and the accompanying staff for all of the generosity and neighborly friendliness and socialization that they provided to Tommie over the years. Special thanks to St. Anthony's Hospice for all of the compassionate care they provided to not only Tommie but to all of her family members as well.   Condolences and sympathy may be expressed with contributions to St. Anthony's Hospice.
