Wesley Owen (Blue) Coomes, 100 of Slaughters, KY passed away at 5:45 AM Sunday July 12, 2009 at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home in Madisonville, KY. She was born July 29, 1908 in Hopkins County, KY to the late Owen and Mae (Ashby) Blue. She was a 1926 graduate of Slaughters High School and attended the Western Ky Teachers College in Bowling Green, KY. She taught in one room school houses in the late 1920’s and 1930’s. She was past president of both Hanson and Slaughters School PTA. She was a member of Slaughters United Methodist Church. Her Children and grandchildren were her life. She also loved flowers and gardening as well as cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 57 years; Walter Coomes, three brothers; Marvin Blue, Hayden Blue, and Lacy Blue, 3 sisters; Chester Crowley, Mallie Shelton, and Lila Mae Lomler, 1 grandchild; Edward Lynn Coomes (Oct. 2, 1959), and one Daughter-in-law; Jo Ann Ranes Coomes. She is survived by 3 sons; Wilbur J. Coomes and wife Wilma of Owensboro, KY George “Tommy” Coomes and wife Dora of Providence, KY Jimmy Coomes of Slaughters, KY 3 daughters; Reva Coomes Holloman and husband Jon of Hanson, KY Kae Coomes Fuqua and husband Buddy of Owensboro, KY Glenda Coomes Townsend and husband Mike of Slaughters, KY 13 Grandchildren 24 Great Grandchildren Services will be held Friday July 17, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Tomblinson Funeral Home Slaughters – Hanson Chapel. Pastor Ronnie Young and Bro. Laddie Pride will officiate. Burial will be in Slaughters Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday July 16, 2009 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM and Friday 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be; Bruce Alan Coomes, Jon Holloman, Jr., Russell Owen Holloman, Jeffrey Thomas Coomes, Stephen Fuqua, Michael Cody Townsend, and Justin Jones. Honorary Pallbearer will be Aaron Blaine. Memorial contributions may be made to Slaughters United Methodist Church or Green River Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home
